Granting decisions are made by the Board of Governors at their semi-annual meeting each July. Notification of the results is on the website. When the grants are approved, the applicants receive an email with a link to the appropriate page on the website. If a grant is awarded, the applicants will be able to see the number of years and the overall budget information. Grantees will then have to submit their amended budget for the first year on-line.

Referees' evaluations are treated as confidential. However, about two weeks after the results are made available, applicants may use a web link they received in the notification letter to read copies of referees' comments. These comments are shown in full, except for the names of the referees, numeric grades, and derogatory remarks, if any. Furthermore, the BSF staff is prepared to discuss the outcome of the evaluations with the applicants, and when possible, to offer relevant background information.

Investigators should note that resubmission may be made only at the BSF's regular submission date of the same discipline (not in the following year!), and that resubmissions will again be evaluated in competition with all other applications submitted that year.

Grant approval is usually conditional, pending budget modifications or further details regarding the workplan.

BSF decisions are approved by its Board of Govorners and are final. The BSF has no appeal procedure. Corrections can be made only in resubmission for the following competition, two years after the original submission.
