About
The U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on research cooperation in 2022. The MOU outlines an overarching framework to encourage collaboration between U.S. and Israeli research communities and sets out the principles by which jointly supported activities might be developed. The MOU provides for an international collaboration arrangement whereby U.S. researchers may receive funding from the NEH and Israeli researchers may receive funding from the BSF.
The purpose of this new partnership with the NEH is to encourage more international collaboration in humanities research between American and Israeli scholars.
Financial support for the U.S. scholars in the joint NEH-BSF funding programs comes from the internal resources of the NEH, as part of its regular activity. The NEH does not set aside any money for these collaborations, and they are part of their ongoing programs. Financial support for the Israeli scholars in these programs is from annual allocations from the Israeli Committee for Planning and Budgeting (CPB). These funds are specifically designated to support the Israeli researchers in the NEH-BSF programs.
